The ‘Breakout’ Project is a training programme that will help prepare you for working
in today’s job market. This is a practical, experiential course that uses activities,
and discussions to empower you to address any fears that prevent you from seeking the
full range of employment potentially available.

Project content and delivery

The project is broken down into two main programmes, labour mobility and dispute management.

The labour mobility programme looks at the following areas:

  • Understanding the changing local labour market

  • Understanding diversity and difference in the current local labour market

  • Methods of tackling labour mobility in the workplace

  • Positive interpersonal communication

The dispute management programme will look at supporting employers and managers to develop
their skills to deal with diversity and manage the normal range of labour disputes more
effectively. There is little point, in our experience, building the capacity within communities
if employers at the same time have little awareness or understanding of the stress and tensions
that will come with an increased diverse workforce. This is true whether the diversity is between
the traditional sectarian divide or the changing demographics within Northern Ireland.
