Mary Montague, the Training Director has been involved in working for reconciliation
since 1982. She is well known for her work in intergrating both Community Relations and
Community Development approaches within both urban and rural interfaces. Mary has trained
and and lectured internationally on many occasions on the themes of reconciliation, Conflict
Management and Mediation.
Mary has acquired extensive experience of mediating in interface areas that have ongoing
experiences of deep inter and intra communal divisions and violence. Mary worked professionally
also as a Foster Parent of over 40 children, as a project worker at Quaker Cottage and as a
Family and Community Worker at the Corrymeela Community in Ballycastle and Belfast. In each
of these positions Mary has helped devise and initiate a number of innovative approaches
to working with children living with Conflict.
A founder member of Women Waging Peace Mary has been key in both devising and piloting the
Trainer of Trainers Programme with TIDES under the support of the CRC European Learning
Fund. She firmly believes this intiative can play a part in building up the skills and
capacity base for Community Relations and Conflict Management Training within
Northern Ireland.
