This course aims to enable learners to

  • Understand that individuals have rights and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of equal opportunity issues.
  • Describe how local and national government works.
  • Understand the range of public services available in the local community.

Understanding Diversity within Society (Level 1 & 2)

Level: 1 or 2 Credits: 3
This course aims to enable learners to

  • Understand the meaning of the term “diversity”.
  • Demonstrate awareness of diverse groups and practices.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of similarities between groups.
  • Be aware of the importance of respecting diversity.
  • Recognise the contributions of diverse groups to society.

Understanding Active Citizenship in the Local Community (Level 1 & 2)

Level: 1 or 2 Credits: 3

  • Understand the social diversity of citizens in the local community.
  • Understand the importance of active participation in the local community.

    Understanding Young People and the Law (Level 1)

    Level: 1 Credits: 3
    This course aims to enable learners to

    • Understand why young people become involved in crime.
    • Appreciate the consequences of crime on different people.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the Criminal/Youth Justice System.
    • Appreciate custodial and alternative forms of sentences.
    • Appreciate the role of a local agency.

    Developing Leadership Skills Level 3

    Level: 3 Credits: 3
    This course will enable learners to

    • Understand the key characteristics of an effective leader
    • Understand the skills involved in being an effective leader.
    • Develop the relationship of leader and team member.
    • Demonstrate the ability to lead.
