Conflict Management & Mediation

As part of our vision to: empower people with practical skills to deal with the challenges of everyday life, and address the legacy of political violence we have designed two practical courses in Conflict Management.

Our conflict management courses (OCN NI II & OCN NI III) engage participants to understand the nature of conflict and explores models used in dealing with conflicts/disputes including mediation. The level 2 course provides an opportunity to learn & practice mediation as a technique to dealing with conflict while creating a progression route to the more advanced Level III course.

We would particularly recommend the level II course for individuals involved in community or youth work, working with BME groups, sporting organisations, voluntary groups or any type of work (voluntary or paid) which involves dealing with a diverse range of people.

The level II course is targeted at those who have not previously participated in conflict management training, or who have limited experience in conflict resolution or mediation, but would like to learn more.

This course will give people the skills to:

  • Understand the nature of conflict.
  • Understand the Causes of Conflict.
  • Understand Creative methods for dealing with conflict.

The training is informal, interactive, interesting and engaging. The learning will also be experiential with lots of opportunity for discussion and questions.

The level III course requires participants to reflect on their personal conflict style in various situations, about how that style impacts on decision making in a group, and how they can become more engaged and impartial in group management. Participants will engage in a more in depth mediation process which requires previous mediation experience.

The course will give people the skills to:

  • Understanding the nature of conflict.
  • Understanding conflict styles.
  • Methods of conflict management / mediation.
